KIPARDO flow forming manufacturing line for alloy wheels

KIPARDO MANUFACTURING

Flow Forming Manufacturing Process

At KIPARDO, we form the rim section of an alloy wheel on our dedicated flow forming line, capable of processing 12-26″ wheels, using controlled roller forming before we move the wheel into downstream processing.

FLOW FORMING IN THE FACTORY

From wheel blank to formed rim section

Flow forming is an advanced manufacturing process that combines the advantages of forging, extrusion, and stretching. It helps maintain the metal’s density and improves the mechanical properties of aluminum alloy wheels.

We show the flow forming manufacturing equipment and real process stages in our factory, so your team can see how rim forming fits into the production route.

PROCESS SEQUENCE

How we form the rim in the factory

01 / CAST WHEEL BLANKS

Prepare Cast Wheel Blanks

We begin with wheel blanks produced through our casting process. We stage the cast blanks for flow forming and check their condition before bringing them to the forming line.

This gives us a prepared starting point for the rim-forming operation.

02 / TOOLING SETUP

Mount the Blank on Tooling

We place each cast wheel blank on the designated flow forming tooling and secure it before forming begins. We check the setup against the approved production specification.

This positions the blank for the next rim-forming stage.

03 / RIM FORMING

Shape the Rim Section

We rotate the wheel on the machine and guide the forming rollers across the rim section in controlled stages. We use the tooling to form the required rim profile.

We follow the confirmed wheel program throughout the operation.

04 / PROCESS CONTROL

Monitor the Forming Stage

We keep the wheel supported in the forming station while we form the rim profile. We check the process settings and wheel condition as part of the production route.

After this stage, we move the wheel to the applicable downstream operations.

MATERIAL STRUCTURE

How Flow Forming Changes the Rim Structure

During flow forming, controlled roller pressure plastically works the rim section while it rotates. This directs the material flow along the rim profile and produces a more oriented internal structure than the starting cast condition.
